I am pleased to share that I translated the contributions from Mr Yeh Shu-han (Taiwan) and Mr Brando Tan (Singapore) for the “In Memory of Mr Akiyama (Part 3)” feature in the June issue of Band Journal, released on 9 May.
Both gentlemen provided truly heartfelt and moving messages. I put my heart into the translation to preserve the unique “texture” of their original words in Japanese: Mr Yeh’s refined style, which carries the elegance of a 20th-century intellectual, and Mr Tan’s more appassionato delivery.
Being able to introduce the words of the Honorary President and the Administration Manager of the Asia and Pacific Band Directors’ Association (APBDA), an organisation founded by Mr Akiyama, to a wider audience has become a significant way for me to pay tribute to his memory.
