Finished reading a book Going on WHO (WHO o Yuku/WHOをゆく) by Dr Shigeru Omi.
He is the former Regional Director of WHO Western Pacific Region, and appeared at the front of Japanese people almost every week as a member of the Novel Coronavirus Expert Meeting commissioned by the Japan Government under the state of emergency.
This book introduces his experiences of the eradication of polio and fighting against SARS. This book taught me how much experiences he has had against epidemics!
I can say, it’s so fortunate for Japan society to have Dr Omi and other great specialists in the moment of COVID–19 outbreak.
I believe one of the major reason that Japan’s “halfhearted” lockdown was relatively successful in April and May is thanks to specialists’ efficient proposals, and the book made my thought more surely.
