Listened to the Tokyo College of Music Band Academy Spring Semester Concert.
The most impressive thing was the high standard of ensemble quality. The band members’ high attention to the choice of tone colour, dynamics settings, phrasing, keen ears, etc. can be felt through the performance. The musicianship of each student has surely improved a lot compared to the last year.
Actually, I sometimes felt that they are NOT performance majors especially when they play more difficult pieces. However, the overall impression is “listened to good music and ensemble”.
The direction of Maestro Tatsuya Shimono was, of course, marvellous. His talk about the repertoire was enjoyable too. And, I’d like to pay students a complimentary for the great performance.👏🏻
This concert specifically showed the fruitful curriculum of the TCM Band Academy!
