I got a book, Stage Etiquette for a Successful Concert by Takahiro Kauchi, on its release day — and read through it in an evening!
Although it’s a practical guide, it even left me with a light-hearted yet inspiring feeling.
One reason is that a book like this has been published reflects the depth of Japan’s wind band scene — not just its spread.
Moreover, the broad perspective and deep insight of Kauchi-san, who is also an announcer at Akita Broadcasting System, can be seen throughout the book. It made me laugh at times and nod in strong agreement at others — I found myself resonating with it page after page.
While the book doesn’t discuss musical techniques at all, reading it will undoubtedly raise the performance quality on stage. It will also refine the overall impression of the concert itself.
Truly, it’s a must-buy — not just for each ensemble, but for every conductor, teacher-in-charge, band leader, executive committee chair, and MC involved!
